Don’t Forget the Milk, and Other Nifty New Sites for Apps

January 9th, 2009 by Kim Keough · No Comments

Ho, ho, ho. It seems that Santa was on the information super highway this Christmas. Going digital seems to be paving new paths, even for old Kris Kringle by way of Twitter, personalized video messages, text messaging, video chatting, and live mapping. What could possibly be ahead for 2009?

The Guardian Newspaper just released their 100 Top Sites For The Year Ahead, a list that includes heavy-hitting blogging and social networking sites. With the number of options out there, it’s amazing that these sites (WordPress, Facebook, Twitter) consistently get ranked at the top. Kudos to them for creating easy to use, perk-heavy websites. Even more fascinating are aggregate sites that cluster these sites together. Take monitter.com for example. This site allows you to type in three key words that will update you, in real time, with all of the live Twitter postings including those words.

Another fascinating theme throughout this list were the number of sites that offer mobile applications for handheld devices–even for the simplest of things. Take rememberthemilk.com, for example. This site specializes in a mobile to-do list for your handheld. Pocket Gamer offers endless game downloads for your mobile device. Flickr offers a mobile photo blogging service for members. Qik.com features mobile video sharing. And of course the ever-helpful Google Maps with Street View is available as a mobile application so you never get lost.

Clearly those in-the-know about the future of our Web-based world are trending towards all things mobile and social. These tools provide a range of services from everyday helpful to super specific niche markets. I’m really excited to take on these new technologies and apply them to the work we’re doing here at BodiMojo!
